Craps Glossary

This glossary is a guide to understanding the different craps terminology and expressions used in the online casino game of craps.

Success or enjoyment of any game is dependent upon an understanding of the game itself. The game of online craps is certainly no different. Obtaining an insight into the various terms used in the craps game assists the player to become familiar with this particular online casino pursuit.


Any Craps This refers to a bet that the next dice roll will produce a 2, 3 or 12.
Any Seven This refers to a bet that the next dice roll will produce a 7.
Big 6 This refers to a bet placed that predicts that a 6 will be rolled before a 7.
Big 8 This refers to a bet placed that predicts that an 8 will be rolled before a 7.
Big Red This refers to a bet placed on any 7.
Come Bet This is a bet that can only be placed after the come out roll.
Come Out Roll This is the first roll of the dice in a round of betting.
Craps The numbers 2, 3 and 12 are referred to as craps.
Crap Out This term is used if a 2, 3 or 12 appear on the come out roll.
Don't Come Bet This bet predicts that a 7 will appear before a point is established.
Don't Pass Bet This bet is placed before the come out roll and predicts that the die will not pass and therefore that a seven will be rolled before the point number is rolled again.
Don't Pass Line This refers to the area in which don't pass bets are placed.
Field Bet This is a one roll bet that predicts that the number 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 or12 will appear.
Front Line This is an additional name for the pass line.
Hardway Bet This wager predicts that a 4, 6, 8 or 10 will show as a pair prior to a 7 being rolled.
House Edge This is the advantage that the casino has over the player on a specific bet.
Lay Wager This bet is against a point number already thrown and is enabled by paying a 5% commission.
Layout This refers to the craps table surface which shows the various areas where craps wagers may be placed.
One Roll Bets The results of such bets are determined on the next roll of the dice.
Pass Line Bet This bet is placed before the come out roll and predicts that the die will pass.
Point This term relates to the number that is established on the come out roll and can be one of the numbers 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10.
Seven Out This expression refers to a throw that shows a 7 rather than the repetition of a point number after a point has been established. Once a seven out occurs, this is the end of the roll or series.
Shooter This refers to the one who rolls the dice.
