Play Keno Online

It takes just a little knowledge to play Keno online, having fun from the privacy of one’s own computer.

For someone who likes simple gaming, and doesn’t want to go in person to a casino, it makes a lot of sense to play keno online. Playing keno online is like playing the lottery, even easier.

Hit or Miss

Keno consists of eighty balls, numbered from 1 through 80, the Keno board, and playing cards. From the 80 balls, 20 are drawn for a single Keno game. The Keno board, which has slots for the numbers 1 through 80, displays which 20 out of the 80 numbers were chosen. In classic Keno as played in bricks and mortar casinos, the player marks or “spots” 20 numbers on the card, and can receive a payout either for matching the numbers drawn, which is called a “hit”, or for missing all (or most) of the numbers. When playing Keno online, some of the options are to play only fewer numbers, in which case only the number of hits counts towards the payout.

Make Money? You Bet!

During typical play, Keno online games offer the player the choice of betting $1, $3, $5, or in some cases $10. (Most online Keno games allow a maximum of $5 or $10 per bet.) The player also chooses the number of balls to try and match (how many numbers to play). Then the 20 balls are drawn and their numbers displayed on the online Keno board.

Three factors control the amount of money one can win in online Keno play: the size of the player’s card (how many numbers were played), the number of hits, and the amount bet. These three factors are looked up on the payout tables and the appropriate amount of winnings – the payout – are paid to the player. That’s all there is to it!

For a typical $1 bet, the payouts would range from $1 (making back the bet, in effect a free play win,) to $10,000 or even more for a perfect match where all of the player’s spots match the Keno board. It should be noted that many casinos have an aggregate limit on their Keno games, such as $50,000, so that is impossible to win more than that limit at one time, no matter how many games are played or how much money is bet.

Odds Are ... You’ll Have Fun

There are a literally astronomical number of combinations of play that can come up on a Keno board – 3,535,316,142,212,174,320 of them, in fact. That’s three and a half quintillion, or three and half million billion. And those are the odds against having a perfect score card. If that was the only to win, it wouldn’t be worthwhile to play Keno online (or anywhere else, for that matter.) Fortunately, there are many other payouts on the table.

For conservative play, involving 2, 3, or 4 spots, a free play can be won with a couple of hits. Statistically, that is very easy to do, and hence has a small payout. It does allow one to keep playing, though, and continue having fun.

The best way to play Keno online is with a light heart and little expectations, then a pleasant surprise always awaits.
