Roulette Tips - Winning Tips for Roulette

An examination of some useful roulette tips that may help to increase your chances of winning in the casino game of roulette.

Roulette Systems

There are a number of roulette systems that are available and there are players who will swear by one system or another. Here we will mention a few of the systems that are available, however players should be aware that roulette is a game of chance and that these systems do not work.

A Busy Table

It is advisable to always play at a busy table. As the house edge for the game of roulette is not a favorable one for the player (5.26%), playing at a busy table can help. If you play at a busy table, you are likely to see approximately thirty spins per hour. This will help to limit the amount of time that your money is exposed to the house edge and at the same time it will increase your competition time.

Play European Roulette

There is a significantly lower house edge if you play European roulette compared to American roulette. The American roulette wheel has 38 possible slots (the numbers 1 though 36, a single zero and a double zero) with a house edge of 5.26%. In European roulette, there are 37 possible slots (the numbers 1 through 36 and a single zero slot). By simply having one less slot, the house edge in European roulette drops from 5.26% to 2.63%. So, if you make sure to always play European roulette, you will halve the house edge automatically.

The 'En Prison' Rule

If you are playing at a European roulette table, make sure to make use of the optional 'en prison' rule. This rule dictates that if a player makes an even money bet and the ball then lands on the single zero, the player need not automatically lose his bet. He can make use of the 'en prison' rule which holds the bet until the next spin. If, on the next spin, the ball lands on the player's number, he wins back his bet. If on that spin, he loses, then he will lose his bet on the second spin. By making use of the 'en prison' rule, players can reduce the house edge further – down to 1.35%.

Avoid the Five-Number Bet

If you are playing American roulette, never place the five-number bet of 0, 00, 1, 2, 3. This will increase the house edge from 5.26% to a whopping 7.89%.

A Biased Wheel

It is possible to look for a biased roulette wheel or to look for poorly programmed online casino roulette software. Read online casino newsletters and if one mentions a large roulette win, you could try playing at that casino. In terms of land-based casinos, it is possible that a roulette wheel has been worn down slightly from use or that it is slightly off level. You can test this through infra red beams, although most land-based casinos have the ability to detect electronic equipment and they will not allow you to do this.
