Women in Poker Tournaments - Women Holding Their Own In Poker Tourneys

An increasing number of women are entering poker tournaments. A number of them are playing exceptionally good poker.

Today, if you looked in on a poker tournament, you would see that the majority of the participants are men. Now, you will undoubtedly see more women then you would have 20 years ago, but the ratio of women to men would skew heavily in the favor of men. Though women are largely outnumbered, there are few who are not only able to compete but are consistently in the hunt for spots at the final tables at even championships at major events.

Women definitely stand out at the tables. Sometimes this is by virtue of being female. Other times this is because they choose too. Certain women dress in extremely nice clothes (Vanessa Rousso), wear hats, sunglasses and other accessories in order to stand out. This becomes a part of their persona and image, making them memorable.

At one time, a female participating in a poker tournament would have definitely caused heads to turn. Many men would have counted them out as a real contender and assumed that their skill set was weak. Today, that has changed quite drastically. Not only are men no longer surprised to see women at the poker tables, many no longer assume that they will be able to beat them simply because they are a woman.

Other notable wins by females include Kathy Liebert who won the Party Poker Million and Annette Obrestad who won the WSOP-Europe Main Event.

Female players routinely participate in the world’s most prestigious and competitive tournaments. You will regularly find them playing in World Series of Poker, World Poker Tour and European Poker Tournament events.
