Annie Duke - Annie Duke Sits Atop the Female Poker World
Annie Duke has become one of professional poker’s best female representatives.
Many non-poker fans were introduced to poker professional, Annie Duke, on Donald Trump’s Celebrity Apprentice. She finished second to her on-air nemesis and rival, Joan Rivers. Annie Duke, known as the ‘The Duchess of Poker,’ was born in Concord, New Hampshire. She currently lives in the city of Las Angeles, California and is a prominent member of Team Ultimate Bet. Annie is not only one of the most prominent, popular and winning female poker players but one of the best, period.
Annie Duke grew up playing poker with her family, including her brother, Howard Lederer, who has also played poker professionally. She would follow him into the profession. Annie played locally in card rooms before entering a 1994 World Series of Poker event. She competed extremely well and ended up at one final table, competed in the Main Event and won money in four events. To say that her play was good, would be an understatement.
Duke has collected larger cash payouts then many poker professionals, both male and female. She has won millions of dollars and took home the top prize at a number of very competitive events, including the World Series of Poker Tournament of Champions (2004) earning herself a WSOP Bracelet. Annie Duke has proven to be an outstanding player on the felt and a responsible and giving citizen off of it. Her work for charity has been exemplarily. Duke has broken barriers and shattered stereotypes surrounding female players. Today, she is one of the most competitive, professional poker players in the game. She also has been a great ambassador taking the game to people who might not otherwise know a lot about it. Her turn on Celebrity Apprentice introduced professional poker to an audience that probably did not have a lot of exposure to the sport, prior to that.
