There are many craps systems involving place bets on six and eight but make sure you don't confuse that with "big 6 and 8". After you place a number it must be rolled before the seven in order to win. If the shooter 7s out before your number is rolled you will lose. When you win a craps place bet the dealer will push you your winnings but your original bet will stay. You must pick these up yourself.
Your original wager will stay on the place number until the shooter 7s out or until you ask the dealer to take your bet down. You can also take down your craps place bets any time you feel like it.
