While there are any number of people and websites who will tell you “the one true way” for how to win at craps, the simple truth is that there is no free lunch.  You can’t get something for nothing, and the best way to make money in craps is to have Lady Luck perched firmly on your shoulder and guiding the dice rolls the entire time until you cash out your chips.

That being said, there are plenty of things that you can do to give her all the help you can.  The first thing, of course, is to learn craps, and that means to learn the game thoroughly.  For starters you have to understand how craps games are played, where to place bets on the craps table, and all the other ins and outs of craps gambling.  You also need to understand craps odds, and understand where things stand according to probability and statistics at each step of the game.  As Kenny Rogers memorably sang, “Know when to hold ‘em, and know when to fold ‘em.”  When you understand that, and craps betting seems “obvious” to you, then you’re on your way to learning how to win at craps.

Then practice your newfound knowledge, but don’t risk your own money!  There are plenty of free craps games out there; take advantage of them to  practice, practice, practice.  Hone your skill playing online craps, without the pressure of other people standing around betting for (or against) you, or surly dealers looking at you as an ignorant newbie.  Take the time, and slowly work your way up to playing for a little bit of money online.  Keep the bets low and the pace slow, and see if you’ve really learned how to win at craps.  If you start consistently making money, even a little bit, then you’re on the right track.  On the other hand, if you’ve kept your bets small you shouldn’t be losing much if it’s not working out as well as you’d hoped.

Of course, there exist many “systems” - ways to bet that are supposed to be “the secret” of how to win at craps.  There also exist many conflicting claims of how effective or ineffective each of those systems are.  There is no system which everyone agrees works, and yet there is at least one proponent for each and every system, so it’s nearly impossible even to dispel most of them.

For any of these craps systems, though, you will find it easier to understand the system, and better be able to follow through with it, if you’ve followed the steps outlined above: get to know the game in all its aspects, the game play, the gambling, the etiquette, etc., and practice that knowledge until it becomes second nature.  That’s fundamental advice for any field of endeavor, but it’s especially true where you run the risk of losing lots of money if you don’t do well, and also have the opportunity, which it would be a great shame to miss, to make money if you do know how to win at craps.
