Some casinos only charge you the craps lay bets commission if your bet wins. Like the craps buy bet, the commission is adjusted to suit the betting unit such that fraction of a dollar payouts are not needed.

The house commission or vigorish (vig) is 5%, so if you bet $40 on four, and the shooter rolls a seven you win $19. Your $40 pays 1 to 2, which makes $20. The "vig is deducted from that amount, 5% of $20 is $1. You win $19 and you will get $59 back, winnings + the original wager.

Most multi-roll bets are similar to the Come bet above in that the shooter making point before the outcome of the bet is decided may win the round. As with the craps Come bet, these bets are considered as "not working" until the next point is established, unless the player calls the bet as "working." Casino and gambling house rules vary on this; some of these bets may not be callable, while others can be considered "working" during the come-out. If the number placed, laid or bought becomes the new point as the result of a come-out, the bet can either be, or can be moved to another number for free.

For craps lay bets players choose a number (4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10) and place a bet in the designated area on the craps table layout.

To win with craps lay bets, a seven must be rolled before the selected number, if any other number is rolled nothing happens and your bet stays. Just like the buy bet, craps lay bets pay true odds, but because this is a reversed buy bet, the payout is also reversed. Players therefore get one to two for the numbers 10 and 4, 2 to 3 for the numbers five and nine, and five to six for the numbers 6 and 8.

Lay bets offer true odds. But don't forget the house vig. A place bet is the opposite of craps lay bets and is a bet that a certain number will come up before a seven is rolled. This works like a come bet, but players choose their own numbers (4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10.)

If the chosen number is rolled the player wins, and if seven is rolled the player loses. The chosen point and the seven are the only important numbers here.  The odds for craps place bets are nine to five for the numbers 4 and 10, seven to five for the numbers 5 and 9, and seven to six for the numbers 6 and 8.
