| Understanding the baccarat table layout is an essential part of learning how to play baccarat. |
| |
The baccarat table has a fairly simple layout and is easy to understand. There are only three kinds of bets in a baccarat game, so the baccarat table reflects this simplicity.
It is important for beginners to learn the layout of the baccarat table. If the beginner is familiar with the baccarat table layout, it will prevent the new player from making silly mistakes, like placing their bets in the wrong space or mistakenly forgetting to pay their commission to the house.
Even though it is more important to understand the baccarat table for land-based baccarat games, it is also useful to know and understand the table layout for online games, even though the software will do everything for the player automatically. |
| |
|
The Layout |
| There are different sizes for baccarat tables. Some are for 16 players and some are for as many as 24 players. However, you will never find a seat allocated the number 13, as this is considered to be bad luck. So, in fact, the baccarat table has either 15 or 23 seats available for play. Each seat has a number allocated to it. The players sit in their selected seats and place their bets in the relevant spots. |
| |
|
The Betting |
| At each spot, there are three spaces to place your bets. They are labeled “Banker”, “Tie” or “Player”. These three spaces are divided by lines, which clearly separate each betting spot. On the layout of some baccarat tables, there are small circles on which a player can place their bets. These circles help the players to place their bets at the correct locations throughout the game. After bets have been placed, the game begins. |
| |
|
The Commission |
| One of the spots marked on the baccarat table is for the commission for the house. This is a small percentage of the player’s winnings on any Banker-bets that are placed. The caller would then place the commission owed, in chips, in the spot allocated for this in front of the player. This is marked on the baccarat table to remind the player, in a polite way, that they owe the house the commissions on their winning bets. This is automatic done in online baccarat. |

|
Variations in Layout |
Most variations of baccarat use the same basic layout of the baccarat table; Punto Banco, the American variation, and Chemin de Fer use the same table layout. There may be small changes in the layout of the table at different casinos, but these are simply stylistic changes. The basic layout is always the same. |
| |
|
Around the Table |
Aside from the players seated around the table, there will also be the baccarat caller and a dealer for each side of the table. The caller, a casino employee, who will oversee the game, announces the moves that are made in the game, and tells players when to stand and hit. The caller also collects commissions and informs the players of their status during each session.
The dealer is responsible for any other help that the players need during the game. The dealer will also have a copy of the rules of that particular baccarat table. |
